The Great Annual Clothing Swap

Here's  yet another tale of life growing up in the 1960's.  Every year on the 4th of July our family would head to Uncle Harry's cabin in the Pocono Mountains for the annual family reunion on my mom's side.  There were grandparents, aunts, uncles, numerous great aunts and uncles and cousins with kids of all ages.

One of the highlights was the annual family CLOTHES SWAP, something we kids looked forward to with great anticipation. Back in those days people didn't have the preoccupation with designer labels like they do today. Everyone would pack up their gently used clothing and bring it to the reunion. At the designated hour all the apparel was piled onto tables and everyone merrily sifted through searching for items in their size and trying them on.  At the end of the day we were delighted to have some "new" outfits to take home. Any items left that didn't fit anyone were then donated to the Salvation Army.

This was a great way to recycle clothing and it cost ZERO dollars, plus it was a lot of fun!
